I watched this a few weeks ago for the 10th time, watched it again tonight – same experience both nights. Moved, enraged, and mouth agape. Some truly remarkable movie magic is happening all over this film. Stewart, Rains, Arthur, and Albert are all delivering world class performances while Capra has this humming along with a bit of boyish glee.
As the boy wonder fights back against American corruption in the senate, sylmbolically dying for his country and the future, as he gets carried out of the senate unconscious. The scale of this story is impressive and Capra keeps the entire operation moving at a breakneck pace. For a film about political corruption, it’s one of the most idealistic films ever made about American politics. A film despised by politicians, but loved by critics and audiences.
